How often should you release music to blow up on Spotify?

16 Feb 2024

I’ll save you the jargon of wondering what the true answer is and give it to you straight:

If you can produce quality music every week, you should release every week.

If you can produce quality music every month, you should release every month.

If you can release quality music every… see the joining factor?

Quality.

Second spoiler — there is no algorithm release hack.

If you release rushed mixes, DIY masters (never master your own music) and rushed songwriting every week, you will get absolutely nowhere.

If you happen to make a track that resonates with a potential fan, and they arrive on your Spotify page to see weekly releases of mediocre music (and mediocre artwork probably) then that will translate accordingly.

They say 100,000 songs are uploaded to Spotify every day. 38 million tracks on Spotify were not played even once in 2022. Don’t be in that pile.

Instead, focus on building a consistent, sound that reflects you as an artist. This is core to growing an authentic fanbase, fans that will follow you on socials, add your music to playlists, tell their friends about your music.

Only then will you see the results on Spotify that you want. Genuine fandom growth.

Try this: Set your release for 2 months from the day you upload, and spend those two months planning your content schedule and actually making the content surrounding it. Plug a teaser a few days before it drops, then promote it every day on every one of your platforms (reels, TikTok, YouTube) till you feel like you’ve reached everyone you can.

Then do it again. And again. Refine the process, refine your skills and be the artist music fans want.
